Weather warning for KZN as Gauteng floods claim four lives
Updated | By MorneJK, Steve Bhengu
More thunderstorms are expected in various parts of KZN, as Gauteng battles to come to grips with the aftermath of flash floods there yesterday.
The SA Weather Service says a frontal system sweeping across KZN this afternoon is expected to usher in a 60% chance of thundershowers - starting in the interior and moving towards the coast.
The service's Wiseman Dlamini says people living in the interior of the province should take precaution.
While in Gauteng - police officials have confirmed that at least two people have drowned while another two died in separate accidents during yesterday's floods. Flash floods struck parts of Johannesburg and the East Rand late yesterday afternoon.
Cars were swept away by flash floods, leaving motorists stranded while major highways - the N3 and R24 - came to a standstill as a result of flooding water.
Gauteng Traffic Police's, Busaphi Nxumalo says the roads have since been cleared while mop-up operations are underway at O.R. Tambo International Airport this morning.
"We urge motorists not to drive into flooded areas, thinking they can drive through the water. This is dangerous and people often underestimate the power of water," she said.
Search and rescue operations are underway after heavy rain saw some roads flooded.
