WATCH: Heavy rain hits northern KZN, update on Tropical Storm Eloise impact on Durban
Updated | By Newswatch
The South African Weather Service has provided an update on Tropical Storm Eloise.
Parts of Northern KZN have already started to experience heavy rain and wind but SAWS say that is due to a cold front passing through the province in the aftermath and not ‘Eloise’.
The storm made landfall in Mozambique on Saturday, causing widespread flooding in the coastal city of Beira.
“KZN is being affected by a cold front and not being by the tropical depression Eloise,” SAWS Meteorologist Wayne Venter said.
“There is a little bit of tropical moisture which is affecting parts of northern KZN, and that will result in showers through the afternoon and evening,” Venter said.

Good morning. Depression #Eloise is currently over the extreme northern parts of Limpopo resulting in heavy rain in some areas of Limpopo and Mpumalanga today and later northern KZN. Main concern will be rainfall. Winds will not be a major factor. pic.twitter.com/8W0A52ckzD

“This could result in widespread flooding, I would advise people in the area to not cross low-level bridges, avoid flooded road, rather just stay indoors.”
Venter says, parts of Durban will experience inclement weather on Sunday as well.
“For the remainder of KZN, there will be some showers and strong winds because of this cold front.
“There has been a lot of rumours that the storm will hit KZN, which is completely false,” Venter said.
