Various ministers visit KZN as mop-up operations continue

Various cabinet ministers have descended onto KwaZulu-Natal
as mop-up efforts continue following the devastating storms and floods.
Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula, Human Settlements Minister Mmamaloko Kubayi and Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams held a joint media briefing following sites visits in different parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.
The ministers reported on the extent of damage and interventions to be undertaken.
The floods have claimed lives of 395 people.
It has also damaged critical infrastructure and left thousands of residents without homes.

Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi said work has already started.
"NHBRC will be coming in to support the province in terms of conducting technical assessments to determine the extent of structural damage to the houses.
"So our appeal to corporate South Africa is to be patriotic, support us as we rebuild and not escalate the prices of materials."
Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu said they've prioritised getting water tankers out to communities.
"An hour or a day of people having no water, it can be a war because this is a sensitive issue of water. It is an emotional commodity if it is not available."
