Updated | By Athi Tutshana
The two drivers of a truck and car who were trapped in their vehicles following an accident on the M7 under the N2 bridge in Durban have now died.
Earlier, Newswatch had reported they had sustained serous injuries. Emergency services personnel had earlier desperately tried to free them from the wreckages.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says drivers needed specialised equipment to be extricated.
''The one driver went into sudden cardiac arrest and Rescue Care paramedics began resuscitating him for about 30 minutes however, his injuries were too severe and he was declared deceased on scene.
''Unfortunately, the truck driver who was severely entrapped in the wreckage suffered fatal injuries and was also declared dead on scene,'' he said.
UPDATE: Traffic officials say the M7 under the N2 bridge in Durban has been re-opened to traffic.
The road remains closed. See photos from the scene below.
