UniZulu a step closer to ending labour dispute
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Nehawu members and management of UniZulu will now try to resolve a two month long labour dispute, following an intervention from Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande.
One of the demands of the workers at the university relates to wage increases. Nzimande met with the Chairperson of the University of Zululand, CV Gamede and Nehawu President Mzwandile Makwayiba separately to try and find an end to the strike.
Spokesperson, Harold Maloka, says Nzimande is trying to assist the parties even if he is not allowed to do so by law.
"We have decided that there should be a team of 6 - 3 members from council and 3 from Nehawu's provincial leadership to try find a solution," he said.
"They have agreed to resolve the issues so that the academic programme can continue,". Maloka said.
