Unisa students, staff 'must communicate'

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Africa Mandla Makhanya has conceded that communication between management and students has not been adequate.

Makhanya has been speaking to students who have spent this week protesting outside Unisa's Durban campus mainly over the closure of a number of exam venues.

He says it is vital to have a working relationship between staff, managers and students.

''It would be important for me to have a very clear-cut process of what unfolds.

''This is so that we don't find ourselves in a situation where I get information from the management that this is what we have done while I get contradictory information from student leaders. It doesn't help us in any way,'' he said.
