UKZN Westville opens public violence case
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Management at the University of KwaZulu-Natal says it has not postponed lectures, like it did last week.
Classes are expected to resume at the UKZN Westville campus this morning.
The institution has opened a case of public violence after a building was partially torched and vehicles damaged during yesterday's violent student demonstrations led by the SRC.
UKZN says a student had to receive medical attention after being injured during an altercation between protesters and security guards.

The SRC's Bongumenzi Mhlongo says they will continue with their demonstrations until their demands are met. These include better safety at residences, postgraduate funding and allowances.
"It was said that the meal allowance should be R1500, student books savings should be R3500. They reduce this amount to R1440. Yet again, our memorandum was not being processed accordingly. [There's] the issue of residences and NSFAS and postgraduate funding," Mhlongo said.
