TUT exams to continue despite interruptions

There have a number of incidents of violence since yesterday afternoon.

"A bus caught fire while transporting about 65 students between the north and south campuses. The police are investigating the cause of that fire," says police spokesperson Sally de Beer.

De Beer says there was also a fire on a campus overnight that was extinguished by security personnel.

"There were sporadic outbreaks of stone throwing and barricading of roads overnight. Police took action to disperse the perpetrators. Arrests were affected," says De Beer.

Police are accompanying buses transporting students to exam locations.

TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter additional security has been deployed at the Tshwane Events Centre.

"Unfortunately this is the last opportunity for students to write exams. Students can apply for sick exams, but that's the only opportunity they will have to write exams," says De Ruyter.
