Teacher shortages at deaf schools a concern

The 2016 matric results - from the country's 38-schools for the deaf - are cause for concern.
The Deaf Federation of SA has been speaking to Newswatch - following comments by the Basic Education Minister recently.

Angie Motshekga has described the shortage of teachers for deaf scholars - as a bleak situation.
The federation's Odette Swift says they're very worried about the grade-12 results of deaf pupils.
"We're looking at Maths Literature results of around 12% average across the country - well over 100 students having written. So it's very scary," she said.
There are currently eight schools for the deaf in KZN - that cater to hundreds of hearing-impaired pupils.
