The court heard that the State is still in the process of verifying Thabani Mzolo's address as well as a possible prior assault conviction.

Mzolo faces charges of murder and the possession of an illegal firearm.

The former student is accused of entering the university's Lonsdale residence in the Durban CBD and shooting Khumalo in front of her roommate.

He allegedly admitted to the shooting on social media before police reached the scene.

Khumalo's family missed today's proceedings but arrived to see hundreds of students demanding justice for their daughter.

Mzolo has taken on a private lawyer after initially applying for legal aid last week.

Charl Claasens is yet to take instructions from his client on a possible bail application.

Wearing a blue suit, Mzolo was far more subdued today. He angered students last week when he laughed and smiled in the dock

Magistrate, Ahmed Motala postponed the matter until next week Thursday.
