State Capture Inquiry: Vytjie Mentor says first class flight was last resort
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Former ANC MP, Vytjie Mentor has been detailing the events that led to her dismissal as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Public Enterprises, before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry.
The then Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said in 2010 that she'd got Transnet to fork out more than R100 000 for a trip to China that included a first class air ticket.
Mentor says she received a personal invitation from the Department of Trade and Industry for the planned working trip. She says she sent a letter to Transnet requesting financial assistance as Parliament was in recess at the time.
"The document on 217 is my letter to Transnet - requesting that they provide financial assistance for me to undergo the trip as I couldn't recive financial assistance from Parliament," Mentor said.
