SPCA urges pet owner to report beastilaity incident to police

A KZN anti-animal cruelty fighter says they're disappointed to hear that the owner of a cat - near Verulam, north of Durban - haven't opened a case against a Buffelsdraai man who was allegedly caught in an act of beastiality.

The pet owner called security company, Reaction Unit SA on Friday, who found the animal in her neighbour's home and handed the man over to police.

But the woman has reportedly refused to open a case against her neighbour. Wendy Willson, a senior inspector at the NSPCA, says it's important for people to report these crimes.

"Wherever there is a sexually violent individual that is raping an animal - there is a very high risk factor to the community. A sexually violent person has other risk factors to vulnerables in the community. Beastiality or animal sexual abuse is very rarely in a single crime. It is concurrent with other violent sexual crimes," Willson said.
