SONA: Opposition expects explanation on Nhlanhla Nene dismissal
Updated | By Zongile Nhlapho
Opposition parties expect President Jacob Zuma to explain during next week's State of the Nation Address why he fired former Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene.
Zuma will deliver his address during a joint sitting of Parliament next week Thursday. The Presidency says the focus will be on the dire state of the economy.
African Christian Democratic Party MP Steve Swart says they demand a better explanation regarding Nhlanhla Nene's dismissal
"The firing of Minister Nene caused our currency to almost collapse. The president needs to explain why he took this ludicrous decision and what the new minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan is going to do to address the economic growth in the short and medium term," he said.
Congress of the People's Dennis Bloem feels the country's confidence in Zuma and his administration is at an all-time low.
"We want the leader of this country to tell us what is he going to do to bring confidence back from the international and local investors," he said.
