Six suspects now confirmed dead in Greytown shootout

Kwazulu-Natal police have now confirmed that six suspected robbers were killed in today's shootout with officers in Greytown.
The shootout came after police received information about a business robbery in Newcastle.
Police caught up with the apparent getaway cars on the R33 in Seven Oaks and a shootout ensued after the cars failed to stop.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the operation involved members from Pietermaritzburg Crime Intelligence, Durban K9 Unit, Pietermaritzburg Highway Patrol, Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad and Pietermaritzburg Hawks.
"The members spotted the third vehicle along the R33 between Greytown and New Hanover but they tried to stop the third vehicle but it's alleged that the suspects tried to shoot towards the members. The member retaliated, fatally wounding six and critically wounding three others. Three rifles as well as two handguns were recovered from the scene and two vehicles belonging to the suspects were also recovered," he said.
A third vehicle was found abandoned in Pinetown.
Zwane say an attempted murder inquest docket has been open. The recovered weapons will be taken for ballistics tests.
