Sentencing in Durban racism case scheduled for end of March
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Bluff resident, Dawie Kriel, has been convicted of crimen injuria after making racist comments on social media last year.
Kriel made derogatory statements against Hindus during Diwali, in November 2016. He pleaded guilty during a previous court appearance.
The matter has been postponed until the 27th of March for sentencing.

During today's proceedings, Kriel's attorney - Logan Padayachee - told the court his client is in his 50s, unemployed and has to do odd jobs to make between R300 and R500 a week.
He says Kriel lives alone in an outbuilding that he rents on the Bluff.
The court heard that Kriel's Facebook post was partially sparked by the running away of his two dogs - because of loud firecrackers - and that he apologised for his remarks the next day.
The State's Nkululeko Msiya argued that Kriel needs to be handed a hefty fine - without suspension.
He argued that social media requires users to exercise responsibility.
Msiya also handed the court four victim impact statements from political parties and various organisations.
