A school excursion to the Durban beachfront has ended tragically - with the disappearance of an 18-year-old pupil.

It’s understood the South Coast schoolboy and his classmates were swimming between Wedge Beach and South Beach when he disappeared beneath the water.
Police divers have been searching for him since last night.

"We want to send a message of support to the family and to the school that is affected," the Department of Education’s Kwazi Mthethwa said.
