Search for teen believed to have drowned off Durban beach

A school excursion to the Durban beachfront has ended tragically - with the disappearance of an 18-year-old pupil.

It’s understood the South Coast schoolboy and his classmates were swimming between Wedge Beach and South Beach when he disappeared beneath the water.
Police divers have been searching for him since last night.

"One of our learners has gone missing - apparently they were swimming with other learners on a school excursion. A team from the search and rescue unit has been dispatched.
"We want to send a message of support to the family and to the school that is affected," the Department of Education’s Kwazi Mthethwa said.
