It says the minibus that came under fire does not belong to the association operating in that area.

Police say the taxi driver and his passengers were travelling from KwaMachi to Harding on Tuesday when the occupants of another vehicle opened fire on them.

Three people were killed and two others wounded in the Gundrifts area.

"Normally with the minibus taxi what we had to conclude or to choose is related to the taxi industry," says Santaco's provincial spokesperson Sifiso Shangase.

"We are not sure because currently it's not known who's the owner of that vehicle, why the vehicle was there, or why it was shot. We now leave it to the hands of the law enforcement to able to ascertain the facts regarding this matter."

Police are investigating three counts of murder and two of attempted murder.
