Cabinet wants Israeli Ambassador to South Africa Eliav Beloterkovsky rapped over the knuckles over what it says are his disparaging remarks about the war in Gaza.

It's instructed the International Relations Department to deal with the matter.

On Monday, Minister Naledi Pandor said says the Israeli ambassador's utterances are no different to the actions of the US's top diplomat to South Africa, who several months ago accused our government of arming Russia as it continues its war in Ukraine.

National Director of the Jewish Board Wendy Kahn says they want clarification from the Presidency.

"Again the questions are asked, why comments are made like this about the Israeli ambassador but Russia has been involved for several years and  there has been no questions and the Russian ambassadors have not been abused in any way, so we are asking questions."

At the same time, Palestinian solidarity network, the SA BDS Coalition, has vowed to intensify its targeted consumer boycotts and divestment campaigns against Israel.

The organisation says it cannot be business as usual.

It's welcomed the decision by the government to recall South Africa's diplomats from Tel Aviv.
