SA will benefit learning from China's power crisis - Ramokgopa

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says with China having gone through its own energy crisis, South Africa will be able to benefit from its experience.

South Africa and eight Chinese entities signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

Ramakgopa said South Africa has good reason to pin its hopes on China to help resolve the energy crisis.
"It was the biggest installed coal generation capacity of any country in the world. They have got the biggest installed renewable energy capacity of any country in the world about 688 megawatts."
The minister said China also has the best technology to help Eskom lower its emission levels.

"Part of the problem is that the emissions levels in some of the power stations particularly Kendal they are exceeding the licence parameters."
