Remembering Mandela, empowering women at forefront of DIFF
Updated | By Portia Cele
Celebrating Mandela One Hundred, An Act of Defiance, and The State against Nelson Mandela and the Others, are three films that will be screened at this year's Durban International Film Festival - celebrating the Mandela Centenary, that's 100 years since the birth of Nobel laureate, Nelson Mandela.
Produced by Anant Singh, Celebrating Mandela One Hundred is a personal look into the life of Tata Madiba - and entails interviews with family, friends, and politicians close to the late statesman.
Compiled by journalist, Nicolas Champeaux and French filmmaker, Gilles Porte - The State against Nelson Mandela and the Others is an animated documentary based on archived recordings of the Rivonia Trial hearings.
The film was previewed at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
The year's Durban International Film Festival kicks off on Thursday and runs until July 29.

The event boasts about a total of 185 films - that includes documentaries, short films, micro-budget films, and features.
Paying tribute to the global movement against women abuse, the festival's opening and closing films are centred on African stories about women - that's The Tokoloshe and Rafiki.
Publicist for DIFF and Durban Film Mart, Sharlene Versfeld says this in line with global awareness on campaigns such as #TimesUp and #MeToo.
