Ramaphosa: BMA will combat cross-border crime

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Border Management Authority will be vital in curbing human trafficking and smuggling.

He was speaking at launch for the agency in Musina, Limpopo on Thursday.


The newly established BMA is a stand-alone state entity.


Ramphosa says the BMA it will also help facilitate legal trade.


"The Border Management Authority will help in combating cross-border crime as well. That is why it becomes an important arm of our security apparatus."

Ramaphosa and his Zimbabwean counterpart, Emmerson Mnangagwa, also inspected operations at the Beitbridge border post, with the two leaders receiving each other on their respective sides. 


Mnangagwa says he wants the two units of the border to talk to each other as he does with President Ramaphosa. 


"Come to your site, look at your site, and then you go across and look at my sight. If the two of us continuously meet and chat, why should not our people at the border have the same relationship?"
