Misuzulu's half-brothers, Princes Simakade and Mbonisi, have challenged his ascension to the throne.

They have argued customs were not properly followed when Misuzulu was identified as heir.

They accused the president of issuing Misuzulu a certificate of recognition despite being aware of the contestations.

The High Court in Pretoria earlier this week ruled in their favour, invalidating the recognition.

The court also ordered Ramaphosa to appoint a committee to determine who is the rightful heir to the Zulu throne.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Presidency said Ramaphosa would apply for leave to appeal the judgement.

It's asked that all processes be given the space and time to reach their natural conclusion.

"During the course of these legal processes, His Majesty King Misuzulu remains the identified heir to the throne," said spokesperson to the president, Vincent Magwenya.

"President Ramaphosa calls on all members of the Royal family to continue working for the unity of ubukhosi bakwaZulu and to prioritise the interest of His Majesty's subjects. It is vital that all due processes are allowed to reach their natural conclusion without inflaming tensions."
