Some R50-million will be used to beef up security along the Mozambican border with KwaZulu-Natal.
The Police Ministry made the announcement after Minister, Fikile Mbalula visited the Manguzi area in the province’s far north on Friday.
The visit follows recent community protests against an increase in criminal activity there, especially alleged vehicle smuggling.
The minister’s spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga says they are also talking to their Mozambican counterparts.
"More crime intelligence officers will be deployed. There is also communication between South African and Mozambican police to make sure we curb the situation," he said.
Meanwhile, 14 officers were arrested on allegations of corruption in the area recently.
