Principal allegedly shot by pupil in Germiston

A 13-year-old Gauteng primary school pupil has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting his principal.

The incident happened today at Primrose Hill Primary School in Germiston, east of Johannesburg.
Police say the principal was shot and wounded, apparently after he instructed a group of pupils sitting in the foyer to take out their workbooks to study.

The 51-year-old principal was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police say the Grade 6 boy will face a charge of attempted murder when he appears in court.
They are also working to establish where the teenager got the gun from.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says counsellors will visit the school on Monday.
