Presidency: No threat from Wagner Group to BRICS Summit

The Office of the President has moved to allay concerns about any possible threats from the mercenary group behind the aborted mutiny in Russia.
Over the weekend, the Wagner Group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, briefly challenged Vladimir Putin's rule after advancing towards Moscow in army tanks.

Wagner has been fighting on the Russian side in Ukraine.
The group operates in Africa and is primarily funded by the Russian state.
At a briefing on Wednesday, the Presidency's Vincent Magwenya said they didn't know much about the group's activities on the continent.

"We have seen, and noted, similar reports about the Wagner Group's involvement on the continent. We are yet to receive official reports from some of our counterparts on the continent. It is, therefore, a bit difficult to provide detailed commentary on those activities."
Several Russian leaders, including Putin, are due to visit South Africa during the BRICS Summit in August.
