Political parties welcome Concourt's ruling on elections

Political parties have been reacting to today's ruling by the Concourt that the August municipal poll will go ahead, despite the problems with the voters' roll which it has instructed the IEC to fix.
The matter landed in court after independent candidates in the Tlokwe Municipality in the North West launched an urgent court bid in February to stop a by-election due to take place there, citing discrepancies with addresses on the voters' roll.
Some parties have welcomed today's ruling, which the ANC has described as 'a victory for democracy'.
KZN party spokesperson, Mdumiseni Ntuli says it now paves the way for voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
"Understanding that there is no perfect system so the work the IEC has to do, in terms of collecting and ensuring that there is validation of data and information for those who are voters in our country, remains an ongoing task," he said.

DA spokesperson, Refiloe Ntsekhe says they also welcome the ruling.
"One of the things that is also critical is that parties should continue to work with the oversight of the IEC," she said.
Cope spokesperson, Dennis Bloem says the ruling shows that no one is above the law.
"This could have created a very serious problem for the whole country on August 3. We know that it is not a very good outcome but we must stick to it," he said.
Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has given the IEC 18 months to correct the address issue on the voters' roll, saying it must be resolved for the 2019 General Election.
