Police probing possible international syndicate link to kidnapping of Sandra Munsamy

The lead investigator in the Sandra Munsamy abduction case says they are investigating possible links to an international kidnapping and extortion syndicate.

Four people arrested in connection with the Durban businesswoman's kidnapping appeared in court on Monday.

The 44-year-old mother was found in a house in Emalahleni in Mpumalanga last week.


Munsamy who is the daughter of the owner of prominent businessman, Poonsamy Naicker, had been missing for over five months.


Lead investigator, Gobz Govender told reporters outside court that the team is looking beyond South African borders as two of the accused are foreign nationals. 


"It is part of our duty to look at the linkages of national, transnational and international. The possibilities we will explore each and everyone to ensure that this phenomenon of kidnapping for ransom is dealt with right to the highest." 


"If it needs to cross boarders, we will cross borders. This team has left no stone unturned in 162 days [resulting in] the recovery of Sandra," he said.

Govender says she is recovering well in a safe place.


"Like anybody that would have been recovering from captivity after after 162 days, definitely [she] is not the original person. She is able to walk and talk," he said.
