It's made the statement after disgruntled community members in Hluhluwe took to the streets. They've been demanding jobs from the entity.

Residents on Tuesday destroyed a fence and gates at the Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park [Cibilenyathi Gate, Makhamisa Section].

The protesters allegedly became more violent and unruly, after officials came out to address them.

Ezemvelo's Acting CEO Ntsikelelo Dlulane says this poses a huge risk as the game reserve remains unprotected.

"There has been damage that is almost in access of a kilometre of the perimeter fence which is a new fence that has recently been erected.

"That same fence also had our piloted smart fence and that alone is now going to amount to millions. It is not the first incident. A number of times we have actually experienced this.

"Our organisation has always been blamed for having perimeter fence that is not up to good standard but of late, we have done all we can to make sure that is not up to good standard.

"Of late, we've done all we can to make sure that we bring it to the required standards; however, the community's are continuing to cut the fence, which is something that we want to discourage."
