Mchunu was sworn in yesterday at the provincial legislature, taking over from Senzo Mchunu.

The IFP's Blessed Gwala says they think Mchunu should continue with the current plan of governance set in motion by Senzo Mchunu.

"The only thing is that the program that was initiated by the former premier must not be abandoned and create a new program but if he perfects what the former premier has done, then we will appreciate," he said.

While the DA's Sizwe Mchunu says they're not convinced Mchunu as the new Premier will overcome the challenges in the province.

"We are yet to be convinced that his deployment to the position of the premier will address the socio-economic issues of our province.

"There remains a huge challenge in KwaZulu-Natal particularly in areas of poverty, HIV/AIDS, service delivery and particularly at local level with municipalities being charged with serious cases of failure to deliver," he said.

The Minority Front’s Shameem Rajbansi says certain sectors in need of attention.

"Not withstanding the cost-cutting, you should prioritise the following - education and extra classes for matrics, health, housing intensification and job creating, fast-track food security and water risk management," she said.
