Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The Department of Higher Education says a number of measures are being rolled out to help financial aid scheme, NSFAS reduce the backlog of applications for funding from students.

The department says the body's still sitting with applications from last year.
That's why it's instructed the scheme to put all new applications on hold, until it processes requests from the past year-and-a-half.
Higher Education's Lunga Ngqengelele says they're very concerned because many poor students have had to put their studies on hold.
He's explained the measures they've introduced to help speed things up.
