NSFAS to reopen 2019 funding applications
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Ministry of Higher Education and Training says National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications for 2019 will open on Monday.
This comes weeks after Minister Naledi Pandor put the brakes on the applications process.
Pandor said NSFAS needed to fix the backlog before opening 2019 applications.
Higher Education's Lunga Ngqengelele says Pandor decided to reopen applications after meeting NSFAS leadership.
He adds NSFAS' administrator, Randall Carollissen, assured the minister work had been done to deal with the backlog from previous years.
Carolissen was appointed as administrator of NFSAS after Pandor dissolved the NSFAS board in August.
"Everything is under control," says Ngqengelele.
Pandor's decision to halt funding applications led to the chairperson of the organisation, Sizwe Nxasana, resigning from his position.
NSFAS CEO, Steven Zwane has also been suspended amid allegations of maladministration.
