Next three months in AKA murder case crucial, says legal expert

A legal expert believes the next three months are crucial for investigations into the murder case of Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and Tebello Motsoane.
Five accused arrested in connection with the case appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
The state asked for a lengthy postponement to November and indicated that there was a possibility of further arrests in the matter.
State Prosecutor, Lawrence Gcaba says they are waiting for judgment in the extradition case of two brothers linked to the matter in eSwatini.
He says there have also been developments in their financial investigation.
The court has previously heard that over R800 000 was transferred into the account of one of the accused, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, a day after Forbes and Motsoane were shot dead on Durban's Florida Road.
The lead detective in the case says the money was traced to a company linked to businessman, Mfundo Gcaba.

Gwabeni is said to have transferred some of the money to his co-accused.
He previously told the court that the money he received was for legitimate business.
He says the money paid to his co-accused was for security services they provided.
Sunil Singh from Sunil Singh and Associates says the accused need to back up their claims with documents.
"If they cannot produce those documents then obviously the inference that is going to be drawn is those monies were given for means other than what they said it was for.
"Remember our system is an accusatorial, in other words, we accuse persons, it is not like an inquisitorial system where you conduct an inquiry into it and then from there make a determination. As a result of our system, the State will need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that whatever they alleging is the case."
