New outdoor road safety campaign heads to SA
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Automobile Association has welcomed a new outdoor road safety campaign headed to South Africa.
Launched two months ago in Paris by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, the campaign will feature billboards strategically placed along various routes that have experienced a high number of crashes.
The AA's Layton Beard says our country is among the first in the world to receive it.
"When you are driving and you notice these billboards on the side of the road, because you are already in that moment - it may also alert you to the fact that there is something that you need to be aware of," he said.

Beard says the campaign will be split into two phases. One is the 'Don't Text and Drive' campaign and the other will promote safety for pedestrians.
"A billboard will definitely make an impact especially with drivers and we are hoping that through this, they are more aware of pedestrians on the road. We are becoming an increasing fatality on South African roads," he said.
