Nehawu to picket at Union Buildings on Monday
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) is set to picket outside the Union Buildings on Monday.
Nehawu national spokesperson Khaya Xaba says the union is unhappy with the lack of response from President Cyril Ramaphosa following their national day of action.
“The leadership of Nehawu tomorrow will picket at the Union Buildings until President Cyril Ramaphosa responds positively and adequately to our demands.
“Ever since we submitted the memorandum of demands on 3 September, the president has not responded. The deadline had expired on 10 September so we will be picketing there tomorrow (Monday) up until he responds.”
Earlier this month, Nehawu took to the streets demanding safer working conditions and a wage increase for its members.
More than 34 000 healthcare workers have been infected with Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in March, while a total of 257 have lost their lives as a result of the virus.
