Nehawu to intensify strike against 'arrogant' government
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) has
labelled the
government's wage offer an insult.
The union has vowed to intensify the strike action in the healthcare sector this week.
The union's members downed tools last Monday.
Disruptions to operations, staff intimidation and absenteeism have been reported at various public health facilities in the country, including in KZN.
Nehawu members have rejected the government's offer of a 4.7% pay hike - demanding a 10% increase instead.
"Despite all our efforts to resolve the dispute, the government is not interested in concluding the 2022/23 dispute as they argue that they have closed and concluded the negotiation for that financial year," said Nehawu's Zola Saphetha during a media in Johannesburg on Sunday.

"This was despite the fact there was no resolution for that financial year but rather a unilateral implementation of the 3%, way below the CPI.
"With this arrogance displayed by government, it's important to confirm that Nehawu continues with the strike."
