National Health Insurance a step closer to reality
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi says government and Treasury will have to find ways of funding the National Health Insurance.
"Sources of funding is a question that's asked of me all the time. Minister, where do we get the all the money? Where do you think the country is going to get the money from? This is the first time that a Minister is being asked that question. It's the job of Treasury and Cabinet to look for funding - not the Minister," he said.
Motsoaledi spoke at a press conference yesterday where he gave details of the Medical Schemes Amendment Bill, that's now been gazetted for public comment.
He says medical aid co-payments could be a thing of the past when the NHI's implemented.
"NHI is going to be a mandatory pre-payment of health. This means that everybody is obliged by law to be part of it," Motsoaledi said.
