Murder accused in Avoca attempted hijacking abandons bail

A man accused of hijacking and murdering a Durban father in Avoca last month will no longer be seeking bail.
Two suspects were killed in an exchange of gunfire with police the morning after Kelly Chetty was killed in front of his young children
Thirty-year-old, Siphamandla Buthelezi was arrested that afternoon. He made his second appearance before Magistrate Mahomed Motala today.
Buthelezi is facing a raft of charges including murder, three counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and attempted aggravated robbery.
The court has today heard that he had abandoned bail. It has also heard that another charge - of attempted murder that Buthelezi is appearing in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court tomorrow on - will likely be withdrawn from the court's roll and added to his charge sheet in Durban at his next appearance.

It's
possible multiple murder charges as well as another Newlands East case
will also be added then. The case is due back in court next month.
