Morning protests on N2 near Umgababa
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
Motorists travelling outside Durban this morning have been met with some major traffic delays.
Protesters have taken to the streets, with the big one currently under way at Umgababa - affecting both sides of the N2.
Police are not sure who the demonstrators are, at this stage, but say the situation is volatile.
Black smoke can be seen rising from the scene.
Carol, a motorist making her way to Park Rynie, says she managed to get off the N2.

"The severity of the N2 - I entered quite a build-up. The traffic had built up to Winklespruit. Now I'm travelling on the R102 towards Umgababa, Umkomaas and the traffic is a little heavy but it's free running. There are no stoppages."
In Sydenham, clean up operations are underway on Randles Road and RD Naidu Drive, the old Stanley Copley Drive, after protesters took to the streets demanding houses and land.

"It was violent, now they are listening to Metro Police. We are trying to calm the situation down to disperse the crowd. They were burning tyres on the roadway from early this morning," said Metro Police spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersad.
