More classrooms destroyed in Vuwani
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A block of four classrooms has been destroyed in a fire in Vuwani in Limpopo.
This comes as pupils and teachers prepared to resume academic processes after months of unrest at the facility.
The cause of the fire is still unknown while forensic services say investigations will be conducted.
Police received reports of the blaze from the community at around 8pm yesterday. No injuries have been reported.
Vuwani residents burnt down and vandalised dozens of schools in April in protest over Municipal Demarcation Board decisions - particularly the inclusion of Vuwani into a new municipality.
According to Independent Electoral Commission, voter turnout was low in the district during the August 3 Municipal Elections after residents refused to cast their votes until their concerns were addressed.
The Department of Education says although this is a set-back in their efforts, it will soon be implementing catch-up plans to ensure there are no further disruptions to learning in the area.
