Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters has escaped an attempted hijacking in Johannesburg.

Sun International says Nel-Peters was targeted on Jan Smuts Avenue near the Hyde Park Shopping Centre on Wednesday evening.
"Nel-Peters was approached by three armed hijackers. She managed to exit the vehicle and a good Samaritan came to Nel-Peters' aid and drove her away from the scene," says spokesperson Claudia Henkel.
Nel-Peters' car and handbag were later recovered at the scene by a security company.

"Nel-Peters is shaken by the incident but unharmed," says Henkel.
Meanwhile, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula contacted Nel-Peters following the incident.
"As it can be understood, Miss Nel-Peters is shaken but in good spirit and safe - she has incredible courage," says Mbalula
Mbalula says criminals will face the full might of the law.
"No resources will be spared in the fight against crime. 'Enough is Enough' was two decades ago, now is the time to take the war against crime direct to these enemies of the people, it should be made a societal shame when armed men point deadly weapons at females, these cowards are called amagwala," says Mbalula.
