Midlands man killed in home attack
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The KwaZulu-Natal Midlands community is reeling from another deadly attack on an elderly resident.
Local councilor, Sandile Mnikathi says the murder of Edi Neumeister, a 67-year-old man, over the weekend is not an isolated incident in the largely farming area.
Police say the Nottingham Road resident was attacked with a bush knife at home by unknown suspects.
"Two months ago there was an incident in the Rosetta area where the victim was brutally killed, and two months prior to that, there were two incidents in the Mooi River area where the one victim was left paralysed.
"We also have a huge problem when it comes to stock thefts on farms in the area as well," says Mnikathi.

Mnikathi says there are interventions in place to fight crime in the area.
"That we start subsidising directly to security initiatives such as farm patrols and farm watches and that we begin to better utilise technology such as CCTV cameras and drones to protect raw and hotspot areas."
A case of murder has been opened, while no arrests have been made.
