Mchunu: KZN rape arrests ‘highest’ in SA this week
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says KwaZulu-Natal recorded the highest number of arrests for rape cases in the country this week.

He says nationally, police arrested 259 people on charges of rape over the past week.
The minister says 95 of them were nabbed in KZN.
Mchunu was speaking during a briefing on investigations into the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl at her school at Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.
" We are very much concerned, and we understand the pain and anger that these incidents cause including this one in Matatiele.

"It's no longer a matter of the victim or of the family. It's not even a matter of Matatiele or the Eastern Cape. It is quite far bigger than that, and it is far more serious."
He says no foreign DNA was found on the child after the alleged incident in October.
Police have since clarified that the three people whose DNA is undergoing analysis are not being treated as suspects at this stage but are considered people of interest.
