Matric 2023 top achievers share recipe for success

Minister Angie Motshekga will this evening announce the national and provincial pass rates.

The country's 34 top achievers were lauded at a congratulatory breakfast in Randburg in the morning.

"Your adaptability and your fortitude as top achievers continue to show and confirm that excellence is achievable in the face of even adversity," said Uphile Shange from Sidilile High School in Magabheni near Umkomaas.

Uphile, who is one of the top achievers from KZN, said his grandmother was supportive.

"Well, I think everyone faced challenges this year. It was a really challenging year but one of the things that challenged me was load shedding because I usually studied during the night.

"During the night you require light, which most of the time it was not on, that was the main challenge for me adapting to learn at certain times."

Jaskaran Rajaruthnam from Westville Boys' High School says he always tried being one step ahead of his classmates.

"Before the year even started, I started reading some of the set books, reading some of the notes. I just tried to get slightly ahead of everyone else. After that during the year a few early mornings, didn't go to bed too late because you do have to have your sleep, that's one thing a lot of people forget."
