Man ejected, killed in Ballito accident

A man in his 20s has died after his vehicle skidded of the road, crashed through the safety barrier and slammed into a tree on the M4 near the Simibithi Eco-Estate in Ballito, north of Durban.
When emergency services arrived in the early hours of this morning they found the vehicle severely damaged with the male driver having been ejected. There were no signs of any other occupants.
Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says the came to a stop once it hit the tree which held in place.
"The vehicle which was only kept in place by a few branches was secured by use of cables, allowing crewing crews to access the scene", he said.
"An adult male had been ejected from the care during the rollover and was found by eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services in the bushes further away. Sadly he sustained fatal injuries", Herbst said.
In another incident the emergency medical service responded to also this morning a traffic officer was struck down by a vehicle along the N2 highway near the Prospecton offramp, Durban south.
The officer sustained critical injuries as a result. A helicopter was then dispatched which saw them being airlifted to a nearby specialist facility.
