Man arrested for burning suspected thief alive

Police have arrested a man who
allegedly doused a suspected thief with petrol, before setting him alight in
Verulam, north of Durban.

It is understood the suspect, who has
been charged with murder, was part of a mob that had accused the victim of
stealing a grass cutter.

He was treated by medics and rushed
to hospital, but died on Friday morning.
He had suffered severe burns to 90 percent of his body.
The police’s Thembeka Mbele says more arrests can be expected.
“The man was assaulted before being
set alight,” she said.
