Malema: Gun trial used to tarnish my name
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
EFF leader Julius Malema maintains he's being wrongly accused of firing a weapon at the party's 2018 rally in the Easter Cape.

He was under cross-examination in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
He and his bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, are on trial on various charges linked to the EFF's 5th birthday celebrations in Mdantsane.
Malema is accused of firing a rifle that Snyman allegedly handed to on the stage.
Both of them entered not-guilty pleas, claiming that the alleged firearm was actually a toy gun.

Malema told the court that the State was trying to ruin his reputation.
"You brought me wrongly here - either you want to build your career using my name and destroy the future of my children and my wife. I possess a toy. It requires no license. You brought me here for six years for no issue. I am not being disrespectful. I am being honest.
"No one can associate me with any wrongdoing. I cannot regret having done nothing wrong. I possessed a toy, and it requires nobody's permission for me to use it at any time."
