Makhosi Khoza resignation 'a cowardly act': ANC
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
The ANC has responded to MP Makhosi Khoza's decision to resign from parliament and the ANC, with the party labeling her a coward.
The ANC says it was never informed about now former MP Makhosi Khoza's decision to part ways with the party, labeling her a "coward".
Khoza was facing disciplinary action by the party's KwaZulu-Natal branch over, among others, her public calls on President Jacob Zuma to step down.
Party spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says Khoza is now running away from accountability.
"When she now is supposed to face the discipline of the ANC, she runs away," says Kodwa, "This is nothing else but cowardice, running away from what she has portrayed herself to be."
But Khoza says she does not recognise the provincial structure in KwaZulu-Natal as its 2015 conference was declared invalid by the High Court.
"I am not giving them the easy way out, I think I would be able to fight correctly because I will not be subject to directionless directives that we've been getting. In any case they were going to fire me," Khoza told reporters at Lilliesleaf farm on Thursday.

"I knew that there is no more ANC. The ANC is broken, too broken to be fixed," she adds.
But Kodwa maintains her "anger" with the party stems from her "uncontrolable desire for power to be the minister".
Meanwhile, ANC presidential hopeful Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has been sworn in as an MP returning to the National Assembly.
Khoza has described the governing party as a "new alien", corrupt in its dealings.
She says the ANC's loss of key metros provided a key moment for the party to self-correct, however in her view it failed to capitalise on the opportunity.
