LISTEN: Audit into Chesterville shops underway
Updated | By Anelisa Khubeka
The audit is to also create a database of all foreign shop-owners in the area.
Two weeks ago, foreign shop owners were apparently told to pack up and leave the area by their local counterparts, who are accusing them of selling expired goods and not complying with tax laws.
Area councillor, Sfiso Mngadi, says a task team that's been established with the help of the city's business support unit, began its audit on Monday.
He says shop owners representing both sides are also part of the task team.
Last week, the Congolese Solidarity Campaign met with foreign shop owners to find a way to work together and create a better community for everyone.
The xenophobic attacks that spread across the country early last year saw many foreigners displaced and others killed.
