KZN Transport warns business forums amid threats of violence
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department has warned business forums their threats won't stop work at construction sites.
The department says since last week three violent encounters with some groups have been reported, with some staff threatened at gunpoint.
Spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says the disruptions come as they roll out their infrastructure programme, Operation Siyazenzela, which is fixing roads damaged by heavy rains.

"There are people who are hell-bent on making a profit and terrorising our staff because all they want is to make profit out of every project that is being implemented.
"We call for these business forums to refrain from this. However, the MEC (Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni) has also engaged the provincial commissioner of police to make sure that police are dispatched to attend to these problems. There are also cases that are being investigated with the view of making sure that arrests are affected.
"We take a firm stand that nobody will deter us. Nobody will stop government from doing its work."
