KZN received significant amounts of rainfall in most parts of the province between Sunday and Tuesday morning.

Weather experts say this was due to the upper air system that brought thunderstorms that swept through the coastal, midlands and southern parts of the province.

Forecaster Thandiwe Gumede says Pennington, on the south coast, recorded the most amount in two days at 159 mm.

"From Monday morning up until Tuesday morning, the Durban station received a further 39mm. The Margate station received 69mm. Sezela received 91.4mm. Port Edward received 44.6mm. Mount Edgecombe received 58.6mm. Virginia received 28.2 mm. Paddock received 105.6mm. uMzumbe received 90.6mm.”

Gumede says this sort of weather is not out of the ordinary.

"It is not abnormal for this time of the year for us to receive quite significant amounts of rain as we are a rainfall summer season province. That means we receive most of our rain during the summer season. So, we can start expecting those rains to start coming."
